Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities has
invited the National Academy of
Osteopathy (NAO) along with other private colleges for a roundtable meeting on “Strengthening
of the Outcomes of Private Postsecondary Institutions to Help Graduates Succeed
and Contribute to Ontario’s Economy.”
NAO president, Dr Shahin Pourgol will represent NAO in this meeting.

92% Passing Rate in the Board Exams. Congratulations Class of Feb 2013
92% Passing Rate for NAO Feb 2013 Graduates in the CMOEB
Boards
We are happy to announce that the National Academy of
Osteopathy class of Feb 2013 had a 92% passing rate in the board exams
administered by the Canadian Manual Osteopathy Examining Board.
They are now eligible to apply for membership to the
International Osteopathic Association to receive a license number to practice
osteopathic manual practice in Canada.

NAO Graduates Can Join COMPO
NAO Graduates Can Join COMPO
The Osteopathic Rehabilitation Fellowship program of
National Academy of Osteopathy is a World Health Organization (WHO) compliant
osteopathic manual practice program and as such NAO graduates of this program
in Ontario are eligible to apply for membership to the newly formed College of
Osteopathic Manual Practitioners of Ontario (COMPO).
The tuition for the fellowship program is set at $1500 for
NAO graduates (for all others it is $16,500). Please contact NAO admissions
office to inquire how you may enrol in the fellowship program.

The COMPO has the following objects:

campaign has registered the College of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners of
Ontario (www.fb.com/compOntario). its
website (www.compontario.org) will be
set up soon.
The College of Osteopathic manual practitioners of Ontario (COMPO)
is the governing body established by the osteopathic manual practice profession
to regulate osteopathic manual practitioners (OMP) in Ontario.
The COMPO has the following objects:
- To regulate the practice of the profession and to govern members in accordance with the health profession act.
- To develop, establish and maintain standards of qualification for persons to be issued certificates of registration to practice as osteopathic manual practitioners.
- To develop, establish and maintain programs and standards of practice to assure the quality of the osteopathic manual practice profession.
- To develop, establish and maintain standards of knowledge and skill and programs to promote continuing evaluation, competence and improvement among the members
- To develop, establish and maintain standards of professional ethics for members.
- To develop, establish and maintain programs to assist individuals to exercise their rights under health professions act.
- To administer the health professions act and this code as it relates to the profession, and to perform the other duties and exercise the other powers imposed or conferred on the College.
- To promote and enhance relations between the College and its members, other health profession colleges, key stakeholders, and the public
- To develop, establish and maintain standards and programs to promote the ability of members to respond to changes in practice, environments, advances in technology and other emerging issues.
- Any other objects relating to human health care the College considers desirable.
COMPO's main responsibilities include:
- developing standards of admission to the osteopathic manual practice profession;
- establishing standards and guidelines for members' conduct and practice;
- developing programs to help osteopathic manual practitioners maintain and improve their skills and knowledge;
- investigating complaints and reports;
- disciplining members who have committed acts of professional misconduct or who are incompetent or incapacitated.
College of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners of Ontario (COMPO)
is governed by a 16-member policy-making Council composed of nine osteopathic
manual practitioners elected by osteopathic manual practitioners from among
their peers and seven members of the public appointed by the COMPO.

Pourgol Family Coat of Arms
Pourgol Family Coat of Arms
Each item in a coat of arms has detailed symbolism attached to it. Here is the short symbolism behind each item in the Pourgol family coat of arms:
1) The two royal falcons represent me “Shahin” as the patriarch of Pourgol family in Canada protecting the family. The name Shahin in Farsi means “royal falcon”.
2) On the shield; on top and bottom and the middle are colors of green, red and white symbolizing Iran; where Pourgol family came from.
3) In the middle of the shield; five maple leave; symbolizing Canada; where Pourgol family resides and the five initial members of Pourgol clan in Canada.
4) My dog Snowy on the shield represents unconditional love. The love I have for all family and people around me.
5) The lion on the shield has two meaning. First is a symbol of Venice, Italy; where I proposed to the love of my life. She is the reason behind all my success. Because of her I am the happiest man alive. Second; it symbolizes my son.
6) The two books symbolize my father’s school, and my school (National Academy of Osteopathy), as well as the love my dad instilled in me for books; which is one of the reasons for my success.
7) The green leave on top symbolizes nature that I love so dearly. It also symbolizes the village of Foshtom, city of Rasht and the province of Gilan that are always so green.
8) The vertebra on top symbolizes chiropractic & Osteopathy. Chiropractic directed me toward a career in health. Osteopathy directed me to share my knowledge with students. Inside the vertebra is the word “Shahin” in Farsi.
9) Dream Big. Take Action; at the bottom is my motto in life. It is what I believe and what has taken me to where I am.
10) The color green, orange, and blue represent trees, sun and sea that I love so much. The color blue also represents National Academy of Osteopathy which allowed me to help my fellow Canadians by creating jobs and providing a better life for so many people while helping thousands of patients decrease their pain.
11) The purple color on the shield symbolizes my best friend Devika; who is the best human being I have ever met. She has taught me a lot about the fine art of tranquility.

Dr Pourgol Donates $200,000
The campaign “Manual Osteopaths Unite” has been started by a
number of osteopathic schools and organizations, including NAO.
Dr Shahin
Pourgol, president of National Academy of Osteopathy and the National
University of Medical Sciences has donated $200,000 to this campaign to help
osteopathic manual practice become a regulated health profession in the
Province of Ontario (Canada) as defined by the Regulated Health Professions Act
of 1991.

Happy 146th Birthday Canada!
Happy 146th Birthday CANADA!
Canada and Osteopathy were born within a decade of each
other and within 10 days as well, Canada July 01st, 146 years ago,
and osteopathy, June 22nd, 138 years ago. Canada was just 8 years
old when Dr Still founded osteopathy!
National Academy of Osteopathy is proudly Canadian and we
are honoured to have the ability to teach osteopathic manual practice in 65
cities across 35 countries.
We export a part of Canadian culture to all these cities and
provide a Canadian osteopathic diploma to so many people worldwide. In a way, our international graduates are also
a part of Canada.
