Canadian Manual Osteopathic Association (CMOA)

It is time for Canada to have an official national association for the manual osteopathy profession.

There are less than 50 American style osteopathic physicians (who are medical doctors) in Canada and they have their own association, the Canadian Osteopathic Association (COA).

The more than 3000 manual osteopaths in Canada will also have their own national association soon!

Canadian Manual Osteopathic Association (CMOA) will start operation within the next few months. We will keep you updated.

Looking for a High Income Career in US?

Did you know with an hourly fee of up to $140, osteopathic manual practice is one of the highest paid programs in the United States of America you can enrol directly without the need for prior health education?

There is zero unemployment in this profession. You can open your own clinic or work in other med/osteo/chiro/physio/rehab/massage clinics, gyms, health clubs and sometimes even for athletic teams.

What makes our education unique is our focus on business management. We have over 200 business related lectures to prepare our students for the real world. We graduate successful osteopathic manual practitioners because we teach them everything we know about business management.

NAO president, Shawn Pourgol, MBA, DC, DO, PhD is the founder of Osteopathy Chronic Pain Clinics (www.osteopathypainclinic.com), which has over 209 locations in California, New York, Tennessee, Nevada, Texas, and elsewhere. Qualified NAO alumni can join OCPCC in US upon graduation.

The DOMP program of National Academy of Osteopathy is accredited by the US Council on Osteopathic Manual Practice Education (www.ucompe.org). Alumni are eligible to sit for the board exams of the American Osteopathic Manual Practice Examining Board (www.aompeb.org) and upon passing join the American Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners (www.fb.com/osteopathicmanualpractice) to become a Certified Osteopathic Manual Practitioner (COMP) in US.

Our Diploma in Osteopathic Manual Practice (D.O.M.P.) is one year full time for students without prior health education. Tuition is $11,500 (US). Student with prior health education can complete the program in 6 months at the tuition of $7,660 (US). You can study in our campus in Toronto or online across USA. Online education is in the format of on-demand video lectures. Two weeks of optional practical on-site training is available for online American students at the York University Heights campus of NAO.

Along with our two sister schools, the National University of Medical Sciences in Florida, USA (www.numss.us) and the National University of Medical Sciences in Madrid, Spain (www.numss.com), we are the largest provider of manual osteopathic education with alumni in 70 countries.

NAO alumni are permitted to work in US as Osteopathic Manual Practitioners. They are not however permitted to call themselves osteopaths as the term osteopath in US is reserved for osteopathic physicians (DO). We do not teach osteopathic medicine. We teach osteopathic manual practice. Our practice is hands-on only, no surgery, and no medications.

Osteopathy Saves Lives!

We have many students who decided to become manual osteopaths after receiving osteopathic care.
Here is a post from National Academy of Osteopathy student Carrie Wegreen from Kelowna, British Columbia:

“My first experience with Osteopathy came when I began receiving treatments a couple years after a near fatal accident in the mountains, in which I sustained many broken bones and a severe head injury.

After suffering for over two years and having done every conventional therapy that was available, I was left in a broken state, physically and emotionally.

I was in a dark place and at a loss of what to do. At the age of 21 I could no longer work and was not able to do the things that I had loved to do. My previous adventurous and outdoor lifestyle had turned into daily corrective exercises, pain management, and many weekly treatments and doctors appointments.

Daily life was very painful and normal activities such as driving, walking, sleeping, and being around many people were very difficult. It was in this dark place that a friend recommended I see an Osteopath and I began receiving intensive treatments.

I remember my first treatment. I was surprised that I didn’t experience pain through the entire treatment as I had been used to with other therapies. Plus that night I slept through the night, which hadn't happened for me in 2 years!

My body began recovering very quickly and over the next few weeks, I started doing the things that I had not been able to do in years. Things like: being able to only drive half an hour at a time, before treatments, to driving 14 hours back to my parents by myself; being able to be around my noisy nephews without extreme headaches; and going back into the mountains for a hike did something powerful in me.

As my body started healing, I started coming back to life... and with it I had HOPE again! In just a few weeks my life was changing dramatically and I began to really see that my life had a purpose and meaning and that my accident was not the end.

Actually it was just the beginning! Osteopathy literally saved my life. It took me from a place of despair, where I had given up many hopes and dreams in my life, to a place of repair, where my body and mind could mend and heal. I know these treatments literally saved me from falling deeper into despair and they continue daily to give me vision for my future.”
